Courses Details

This course is available to anyone wishing to gain national accreditation.

Classes are limited to groups of 6-8 people to allow for hands-on practice and one-on-one attention. Group bookings are welcome.

Total course cost is $600 inclusive of gst. The course is made of 4 courses, held on separate evenings.

Each course is held on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evening 6.30-9.30pm

To complete your accredited barista training with Tobys Estate please book dates required for Level 1, 2 & 3 – upon completion of these classes you will book your level 4 Assessment & complimentary Level 5, Latte Art class with your trainer.

Toby's Estate Accredited Espresso Training Program

This accredited course incorporates the 'Prepare and Serve Espresso' unit developed by Tourism Training Australia, and endorsed by the Australian National Training Authority.

  • Introduction to Espresso
    This course covers an introduction to coffee from seed to roast, the workings of the espresso machine and grinder, machine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance, espresso extraction principles, milk texturising and the creation of the range of espresso drinks.
  • Advanced Espresso
    After completion of 'Introduction to Espresso' it is advisable to spend time practising your skills before progressing to 'Advanced Espresso'. This course focusses on refining your grinding, tamping and dosing skills for excellent extractions, mastering milk texturising, flow procedures and efficiencies.

  • Preventative Maintenance
    Level three will give you the knowledge and hands-on skills for maintaining the grinder and espresso machine. A barista must know what needs regular attention to achieve better extraction and prevent unexpected, costly and inconvenient repair work.

  • Barista Competency Assessment
    In this level students are assessed for competency in the preparation and service of espresso based beverages to meet the criteria outlined in the nationally recognised module "Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee".

  • Latté Art (optional)
    The science and art of espresso includes the visual delivery of the finished product. In this workshop you will discover how to achieve free pour and multi tool techniques.
