Our Approach To Coffee

Our Approach to Buying Coffee

So how do we get hold of those beautiful little beans that become your delicious go-to cup? It's simple really. We believe our coffee producers deserve the best, just as our customers do.

That's why we work so hard at creating a fair and sustainable supply chain that supports our growers, their futures and the future of coffee. So every Toby's moment feels good in more ways than one.

Cultivating Great Relationships

Where would we be without our coffee growers? They're not just ‘suppliers' to us. They're friends, team mates and a crucial part of our journey. And as mates, we look out for each other.

We aren't interested in dealing with the middlemen – we direct trade. We work out prices together, based on all the different issues our farmers may be facing for that particular crop - from costs of production to yield, currencies and market conditions.

So everyone gets a fair go, with full control, transparency and traceability about our coffee and the prices we pay.

Our Impact

We work with lots of big guys – the well-known, established and respected coffee farms and producers – but we also champion the little guys too. We love nothing better than using our buying power to open the door to small, less visible coffee producers who are doing amazing work producing beautiful coffees.

And it makes a real difference. To us, to them and to you, through the unique, specialty coffee you savour every day.

Every year we do a Toby's tour to our producing countries, where we not only see the impact we've made first-hand – but how we can make it even better. We meet with our farmers, their families and hear their plans. Helping us to understand what support they need from us, to help them grow.

Growing Communities

Sharing is caring. Which is why we plough our success back into our grower communities, investing in the local social and environmental projects that are really needed, as chosen by our producers. This isn't just a generous gesture or a marketing stunt. Our goal is to support grass-roots projects in every producer community we buy from. Because when our farmers and their communities thrive, so do we.

In a nutshell…
(or a coffee bean)

All this matters because we want to build a sustainable coffee future.

We care about where our coffee comes from, and who's growing it. Not only for ethical reasons, but because we want to still exist in 30 years time.

This can only happen if we treat our producers well and invest in them for the long term. We want our coffee farmers and families to keep doing what they do best. So we can keep bringing you your favourite Toby's roast – and help you to discover new ones, too.
